News Item Creation How-To
Provided you've given the proper permissions, the following will provide you with a simple tutorial on making a front-page news item (and also making it look nice). First we need to host the images we'll be displaying on the front page. The way we do that is to upload them using the web-site's interface, copy the random URL it generates for the image, and then create the post. 1. Click "Administrator Console," Choose "Hosted Files." 2. Choose "Add Files"
3. You'll be brought back to a page displaying all of the files we have hosted. The most recent file should be the one you just uploaded. Click the "LINK" to your image, and then copy that image URL out of the address-bar. The URL will be something similar to: http://s.guildomatic.com/28482/host/be/bee7dc6d4027fd40f3da105c93acf2a1.jpg 4. From the menu at the right, in Administrator Console choose "News Add." 5. Type in your title, and make sure you switch from BBCODE to HTML. Use a tag similar to this for posting your image. (If the image is too large, it looks bad on the front page.) Also, feel free to simply cut and paste what I have below, and then just paste in your image file links.
<p><a href="http://s.guildomatic.com/28482/host/be/bee7dc6d4027fd40f3da105c93acf2a1.jpg" target="_blank"> Here's the entire code I used for this post. This should give you a quick idea of the formatting involved.
6. Make sure you click on the checkbox for "Active" if you want to display this item on the main page of the website. The main-page will only show the last two news items. Bonus
So, here is a workaround...
Will yield: Crown of the Lost Conqueror. If you want to link items, you can insert that code in. Simply browse to the item at WowHead, and paste in its link. The nice thing, too, is that WoWhead's items are always more updated than the ones the guildomatic site uses, anyway. Also note that "q4" pertains to the quality (and hence the color) of the item. 3= Superior, 4 = Epic, 5=legendary. Some of the newer news-items I've been posting have been embedding video, here is the HTML for this post.
